Wow. And a day off tomorrow to really stew in this anguish. This team quit.
I think they'll be trying as hard as possible on Tuesday but I get what you're saying and, yes, I hate days off after a day game/loss/sweep. Time to get outside for awhile!

If a manager uses 6 pitchers and the result is 8 walks and 5 strikeouts, the problem isn’t the manager.
It is both true that Oli was terrible in managing when to take out Woodford and that the bullpen sucked.
Yep it’s Oli’s fault the pitchers walk people.

Will you ever blame Mo? Liberatore punishing in Memphis yet Woodford gets a a long leash.

Oli is told how to manage the pen too. Why wouldn’t he be given analytics by his FO like other teams?
Mo made a mistake with Matz, which is having an impact on the team’s record.

But like I said, as it pertained to todays game, Oli was asleep At the wheel with respect to Woodford. Might have lost anyway if he was more proactive, since the bullpen was bad as well.

What about bullpen health?

Starters must eat innings. And they aren’t. That’s on the POBA.

A few weeks ago most people were considering us a lock to win the division and a strong possibility to contend for a World Series appearance. I'm not ready to burn the place down yet. If we can play aroound .600 baseball the rest of the way, we'll likely make the post season. If we continue the way we're playing, obviously a lot of things will need to change but it would be hard to say right now when that would best be addressed.
It is certainly not impossible to play that well just as it is not impossible to play this badly.
But I just can’t see it. We dont have enough starting pitching to go on an extended run.

Three starters have failed to get through 5 innings during their last turn. The team has 6 quality starts all season. No manager is fixing that. Or managing around it. But when you spent the winter pretending the Cardinals couldn’t have done more, you need an explanation besides the pitching isn’t good enough.

So Oli managed to use 6 relievers anyway, and still lose.

Managers can’t manage every game like it’s game 7 of the World Series.

But when your best 2 relievers are good to go, and you have a day off tomorrow, you have an opportunity to be more aggressive with your bullpen. And when your starter clearly doesn’t have it, it’s your job as the manager to recognize opportunities to give yourself the best chance to win the game.

Oli sat back and said “I am gonna go to Thompson once freeman comes back up.”

And that’s all he cared about. No feel for how his starter is actually pitching. No proactive managing. A robot could have managed today.

Honest question: do you think front office plays a role in pen usage?

Not sure how the pitching being 25th in barrels allowed and 25th in xERA is the manager’s fault.

Who is Oli going to put in lmao

Oli, this guy walks a lot! Put in the reliever that also walks and gives up bombs!

You guys want Helsley and Gio used in the 4th now? Starters must eat innings.
