I think that's a very real possibility-- I still think it's more likely they're a 75-win team, but nobody in the division is good. Unfortunately, that's I think what's also been a factor in the Cardinals being complacent.

I wonder if the 2011 World Series will be the last Cardinals championship I see in my lifetime.

I hope to live a long time yet and see more, but then again, so did my Chicago-native Cubs fan great uncle who was born in the 1920s and died in 2010.Fat_Bulldog wrote: ↑January 9 25, 8:57 amI wonder if the 2011 World Series will be the last Cardinals championship I see in my lifetime.

The Cardinals being unable to dump payroll because they gave everyone no trade clauses is kind of amusing actually.

Yeah and this complacency goes both ways possibly in that they see they have a shot at the division and decide to hang on to Helsley for a month or two and see if they can get off to a hot start, maybe Gorman and Walker hit and McGreevy is projecting well etc etc.MrCrowesGarden wrote: ↑January 9 25, 7:52 amI think that's a very real possibility-- I still think it's more likely they're a 75-win team, but nobody in the division is good. If no one else in the division is going to do anything, I'm now leaning towards just holding Arenado since you aren't going to get anything for him anyway, cross your fingers and hope the Cardinals can sneak into the playoffs.
I'd still trade Helsley if the return is good. The dropoff there isn't going to be as impactful as the probable 2+ fWAR drop from Arenado to our next best option.

Remember, if you and your best friend Billy are in the woods and a bear starts chasing you, you don't gotta out run the bear. You just gotta outrun Billy.
