Re: Blues Off-season and 2024-25 Season
There is a big shakeup coming.
It might not happen in-season but next year's team is going to look a lot different.
Who is untouchable? It's probably a very short list.
Parayko
Broberg
Holloway
Thomas? (He might be in the process of playing himself off this list currently)
Unmovable due to contract
Faulk
Krug
SCHENN
Everyone else is on the table.

Parako having the best season of his career. If we can pry a young potential top pairing dman prospect, he’s not untouchable to me.
This seems like we’re a couple years away, so no need holding on to him as he ages
Plus we saw what it’s like without him last night; can get a high draft pick this year lol

Depending on the direction of a shakeup, I could see parayko being moved for a premium return, like that young rd from nj plus more. I don’t think it would happen, but if we are resetting our window for more than a year or two out, then he doesn’t fit the age curve, though I expect him to age well due to his size, reach, speed (even reduced is still better than most d) and hockey sense. He’s an absolute legit top pair rdman and those are hard to find.
Personally I think they should stick with Thomas. If this if this is a down year, I’m happy. He’s earned the benefit of the doubt. Even star players have down years. I also think kyrou has really improved his overall game and is really really good. I guess I’d treat him like Parayko in that I’d only move him for a perfect fit premium return, and only because we are flush with wingers. (Return would have to have a young elite top line center as I think he’s a legit top line winger)
Krug actually might be moveable with the cap floor increasing and insurance likely covering his real dollars. We’d have to pay a pick though so probably not actually worth it unless we are ready to compete and spend to the new cap. (Because you have to be cap compliant before sticking him on ltir iirc, so I think we’d have to be $6.5m under on day one before getting that relief. If I’m remembering correctly)

I have 2 Blues tickets tonight for section 330, row J. They are free to anyone who would like them. Send me a private message with a good email to transfer them to.

We had a chance to come away with 4 points in our last two games against Edmonton and Florida, but only managed to get 1.
JFC.
Against Edmonton, we missed several chances to go up by two in the 3rd period. Instead, Edmonton tied it and then won in OT.
Tonight against FL, it looked like we were headed to OT again but allowed the winning goal with 11 seconds to go.
This season is so [expletive] frustrating.

I have no data to back it up, but we have to be leading the league in giving up goals with under a minute left
And you can just feel it; wether it’s the other team pulling the goalie or just 5v5, you can just sense the other team is going to score

Per STLToday article:
https://www.stltoday.com/sports/profess ... -top-story
https://www.stltoday.com/sports/profess ... -top-story
The Blues have now been outscored in the final five minutes of the third period 25-15.
Thursday was the fourth time St. Louis has allowed the game-winning goal in the final five minutes of regulation, and first since Montgomery’s Bruins broke Blues hearts on Nov. 12 with 1:47 remaining. The Blues have allowed four game-tying goals in that timeframe, including Draisaitl’s on Tuesday and Pavel Dorofeyev’s in Vegas almost three weeks ago. Ten of the goals allowed have been empty-netters that sealed St. Louis losses.
Of the Blues’ minus-18 goal margin, more than half of it can be chalked up to the final five minutes of the third period. Since Montgomery took over in late November, the Blues are the only team in the NHL that has a negative goal margin against an empty net (outscored 5-4).

Re: Blues Off-season and 2024-25 Season
Lots of sudden smoke around the blues shopping schenn for a “MASSIVE” haul. While I don’t doubt that the increasing cap (plus some retention if the blues are willing, though they haven’t been willing in the past) probably makes schenn an intriguing option as a 3C at 4ish mill per, I doubt he would return much unless we retained half his salary and maybe took a shorter, smaller bad contract back.
I love schenner’s heart and effort, but if you can unload him and get anything back, you do it. Removing his contract gives you a chance to play the kids more, get a better pick this year, and there is probably a salary dump contract you can take on next year (a la faksa and Joseph) to tread water one more year before more kids are ready to be supplemented by some serious star power.
That said schenn has a ntc and I don’t expect us to retain, so we will probably keep him.
But it’s interesting that this is all so out there.
