After two major scandals he said he was stepping away. Neville spoke with two people: GM Ned Grabavoy and Paulson. There is no indication the female CEO hired to mop up (and made big promises to ‘watch what we do!’) was involved whatsoever. My guess is Neville charmed his petulant rich kid stareffer pants off. We also have an incredibly underwhelming kit sponsor now.
The Timbers per the press conference want to make the pushback a raving cancel culture thing. We shouldn’t ’race to outrage’ Grabavoy said. Neville made some stupid, fairly standard dumb jock misogynistic tweets. Most can look past them given his track record since. But if Phil’s baggage is a tiny little pin, the Timbers own baggage is a giant balloon full of [expletive] and the two can’t go together. Neville should get another chance if he talk some Paulson somewhere into it. Not here with the toxic boys club sexual and physical abuse disasters.

I won’t dismiss outright that Paulson did this in some part to stick it to the fans. I bet he thinks we’re all going to have to come back and lick his butt when this all comes off well. But Neville sucks. And if Neville and the kit sponsor are any indication, the talent adds are going to be underwhelming as well.
Hopefully he sells amid WC hype.
