Re: St. Louis Blues 2020-21 Offseason and Season
Great discussion! I think, with how well Faulk has played this year (and he seems to fit our system well now that he’s comfortable- some stuff I read at the time of the trade indicated he played a similar style to petro) and with how hard it is to find top level rd, I think that he and parayko are locks to be protected.
So it’s basically between krug and Dunn. It’s a hard choice, dunn has issues, but is still only like 24, which is still young for a dman. I know the window is now, but he’s potentially a top scoring d man for the future. Krug has played well at times and struggled at times. I think that he’ll be better next year and going forward, a la Faulk. (I think the blues system is just very different than some teams and the blues REALLY rely on their system)
That said, I haven’t seen or read enough to know if he does fit the system.
I think sunny needs to be a lock to be protected, along with kyrou and Thomas. Ror and schenn are obvious locks to be protected, and I think if you think tank will be healthy moving forward, you protect him. That’s 6. If you can do a handshake deal with Schwartz so you don’t have to expose him and can protect Perron, do it, but barring that, I’d lean towards protecting a resigned Schwartz over Perron and beg Seattle to take Sanford instead of Perron or dunn. (And just stand in front of barbashev so Seattle can’t see him)
If I was Seattle and the above names were protected(and of course it would depend on who you could get from other teams) I’d want dunn, first, then maybe Perron/krug from the blues.

In other news, I’m on my phone so copying and pasting is a bit rough, but St. Louis game time took a look at one of the contract projections that came out recently. It had bozak signing for under $1.5m (perfect!), and Schwartz getting just under $5m (yes!). Everyone else was about where you would expect. I’d be ecstatic to have those two back for around $6.25m - $6.5m combined.

Backes dressing tonight for likely his final game in StL, and possibly his last game period.
I miss the guy, but I’m certainly glad we didn’t sign that contract with him.

I'm glad they made it into the postseason, but I don't expect this team to make it past the first round.

Yep. Agreed. I fully expect Vegas to beat us in 5 or 6 games.

Vegas is a tough draw, but I thought we played them fine in the first game. (the otl)
I wouldn’t bet on the blues winning a series against them but I can easily see us winning 2, and from there it’s just a few bounces and youneverknow.
