Odd we’d possibly lose him for nothing (unless the 4 teams tarasenko wouldn’t waive his NTC to)

Definitely odd. Maybe teams were only offering like a 4th or something really little pre expansion draft. (Since they would have to use a spot to protect tank) maybe if he isn’t taken those offers up a little.
I’m totally spitballing based on zero info.

Protected list is finally officially released. Nothing unexpected.
Forwards: Ryan O’Reilly, David Perron, Brayden Schenn, Robert Thomas, Jordan Kyrou, Oskar Sundqvist and Barbashev
Defensemen: Justin Faulk, Torey Krug and Colton Parayko
Goaltender: Jordan Binnington.
So Dunn and Tank are exposed.

I’m guessing their thought process is no one would actually take tarasenko now as it’d be one more guy to protect?
So they think Seattle will take Dunn, and after the draft they’ll be able to find a place to trade tarasenko

Purely guessing on my part, but this is exactly what I think happened in which case Army made the best move he could by not trading Tank before the expansion draft. If the value isn't worth what it costs for Dunn then there is no need to trade him before the expansion draft since he'd be losing Tank for terrible value and (most likely) Dunn to the expansion draft. This forces Seattle to choose and either lets the Blues hold onto Dunn or trade Tarasenko from a stronger position.

Its smart to leave Tarasenko unprotected. His contract for what he'll likely produce in the future is probably reason enough to think he probably won't get taken. And if the Kraken do take a risk and pick up Tarasenko now the Blues have a lot more room under the salary cap.

Not sure why Unrestricted Free Agents are listed on the Available players list. Why would you draft an Unrestricted Free Agent since you would still have to sign him to play next season which you could still attempt to sign them, so not sure what you would gain from drafting them.

Seattle gets exclusive negotiating rights with ufa. Any who they sign count as the player chosen from that team. Meaning if the Kraken sign Schwartz, Hoffman, Bozak or, iirc, Sanford (rfa), then they can’t choose another blue.JoeMcKim wrote: ↑July 19 21, 2:54 amNot sure why Unrestricted Free Agents are listed on the Available players list. So sign Hoffman Seattle!
Edit: did a quick check and Colorado did not protect landeskog. Hmm…

he can just say no/not sign with SEA. doesn't mean they get him. they just are the only team that can talk with UFA right now.
if he really wants to go back to COL, then it wouldn't make sense to protect him, if he's going to re-sign with COL anyway after SEA exclusive passes.
