I'm good with this trade. Something needed to be done.

I would have liked to see a little more with mikkola going too, but something is better than nothing.
Keep going. Trade who you can’t (or won’t) resign.

Those raises to Kyrou/Thomas hurt without guys on ELCs that can replace them, but the waste is definitely in the defense (and Binnington) to me. You could probably argue Faulk is a fringe top pairing defenseman (#2) at times, but we have allocated close to $25 million in 4 middle pairing defenseman (or worse) of which 3 have terms of 3 or more years left. I don't see how they get out of this without paying a ton to ditch some of these guys. I think Parayko still has quite a bit of value around the league. Maybe you trade him for some futures or forward help? I don't see an easy way out of this poor allocation of resources, but Armstrong has worked some magic in the past.cardsfantx wrote: ↑February 9 23, 2:02 pmour defense salary is what's killing us for next year...wish there was a way to move someone back there.
Tarasenko, O'Reilly, Barbs all FA and there's not a lot of $ to sign FA this next offseason (Pitlick, Leivo, Acciari are also FA)
hope Neighbors keeps it up and Snuggy and/or Bolduc are ready lol....cause it's not gonna be pretty next year
Already have 8 D for next year (Faulk, Parayko, Krug, Leddy, Scandella, Bortuzzo, Rosen, Tucker and Peru is a RFA)
Up front we only have Kyrou, Thomas, Schenn, Buch, Saad, Walker, Neighbors...lol that's only 2 lines! we have RFA in Torp and Brown
Binny obv back with Hofer ready to take over backup
15 mil to basically make up 2 new lines

O’Reilly and Acciari to TOR; STL receives Mikhail Abramov & Adam Gaudette, TOR's 1st round pick in '23, OTT's 3rd round pick in '23 & TOR's 2nd round pick in '24. MIN receives TOR's 4th round pick in '25.

They said on today's broadcast that no one was going to get the C for the remainder of this season.
Thomas and Faulk would alternate a third A depending on home & away.

I’m assuming next year the C will prob be schenn? Unless they want to give it to a young guy like Thomas who will be here awhile?
Love the 1st round picks in this deep draft, plus selling off these guys means we’ll finish even worse and our own 1st round pick should be pretty dang high, but…..
We REALLY need to sell of a defenseman (for nothing and I’m fine with it) to open some cap space starting next year.
