Blues sign ryan suter for a year at $750k. Performance bonuses can make it up to $3m, but I’m guessing he’s slated as a veteran 6/7 guy.

Unless they have a trade in the works? We have a lot of left dmen now I think (now that cap friendly isn’t free any longer I’m not totally sure)

Yes it is odd; has to be something else in the works?

We were already full on D and think we’re giving Joseph a real shot since we just signed him on only a 1 year deal, and he was pretty good in limited action and was a 1st round pick.

And odd since suter has been labeled a really bad teammate at every stop he’s been on, so odd you’d want that on a team bringing young guys along

ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis Blues defenseman Torey Krug is in danger of missing the entire 2024-25 NHL season after being diagnosed with pre-arthritic changes in his left ankle.

The team announced Tuesday that Krug will work to rehabilitate the injury without surgery over the next six to eight weeks before being re-evaluated. If an operation is needed, the 33-year-old would be out for the season.

Krug is considered out indefinitely
https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/405 ... nges-ankle

I mean, isn't everyone pre-arthritic lol

seems odd, but if he's out then we have 6.5 mil in cap space once on LTIR (I think we're still like 7 mil under the cap anyways so doesn't matter at the moment)

guess it explains the Suter signing...the new Joseph kid and Peru next ones up!

this is an interesting tweet also...

The pain I feel from having Krug on the Blues is a bit north of the ankle.

The injury kills krug’s trade value, though it sounds like he isn’t moving anywhere any time, though it might save the blues some $ if his salary is insured.

Suter signing makes a heck of a lot of sense now. 8 dmen is a pretty reasonable number.

Edit: never heard of that injury before. (At least in terms or sports)

Blues tender offer sheet to Edmonton's Broberg, Holloway
I like it; weaponize that cap space. If oilers decline to match, it will be about what we owe Krug (who seems to be going on LTIR) not to mention the cap space we still have anyway. We’ll see if the oilers can match as they’re close to the cap so will have to make moves to do so…

The Oilers appear to facing a cap crunch as they weigh whether to match the Blues' terms. According to PuckPedia, Edmonton is currently $354,167 over the salary cap with a roster of 12 forwards, seven defencemen and two goaltenders. The team has just over $3 million in dead money on their books for the upcoming season from the past buyouts of James Neal ($1.92 million) and Jack Campbell ($1.1 million).

Yeah, just saw this. Bold move! It’s a risk as both players don’t have much of a track record, but only two years. Two years that are about reloading anyways.

I like the aggressiveness. Go Doug!!

I’ve looked around to see if I could get an idea of what Edmonton might do. Rumors that they are trying to move cece and/or kulak, but other teams are asking for a 1st or second to take on those contracts. Kane likely goes on ltir, but that could become an issue if he’s not out all year. Plus the oilers have Bouchard and draisaitl due for raises next year, which could come in at $10m ish more than what they earn now.

Also hearing they might match one, but not both.

I actually kinda hope we get both guys, even though that might make neighbors and hofer offer sheet risky next year as we only really have faska coming off the books. (Plus a theoretical cap increase) The only issue with getting both is it’s now pretty tough to get the kids nhl time. I’d like to see dean and bolduc get time this year, and have room for Dvorak and maybe snuggerud and stenberg next year to start getting their feet wet. I’d also like to see joseph (both) and tex get time this year as well.

We are kind of overloaded and don’t have room for everyone.

I know krug is likely out all year, and they can send kapanen to the minors, and sunny will be out a bit, so that makes some room for the first part of this year.

Maybe they trade saad in the offseason, and sunny. Maybe leddy as well? If they get broberg, do they move Scotty p for a pick?

Iirc, krug’s no trade becomes a partial no trade next year, yes? Maybe they can attach a pick to him and salary dump.

Forwards:

Top 3: thomas, buch, kyrou

Bottom 9:
Schenn
Saad
Neighbors
*Holloway* (if edm doesn’t match)
Faska
Texier
Joseph
Toropchenko
*Sunny* (stars year on IR)
Dean
Bolduc
*Kapanen* (likely sent down?)
*Walker* (likely sent down?)

I guess they could just rotate guys? That’s a heck of a lot of quality depth.

Defense:

Right: Parayko, Faulk, Kessel

Left:
Leddy
*Broberg* (if edm doesn’t match)
Perunavich
Joseph
*Krug* (likely ltir)
Suter

Who gets sent down there?
