It's pretty remarkable. At the same time, he clearly wants to stay in the NHL and possibly play for a likely playoff team. A free-agent deal might let him do both.cardsfantx wrote: ↑January 29 25, 3:10 pmSo we get the clear the roster spot and clear all the money and cap space
Pretty cool of saad to do that. I’d have taken the money as you know he’s not going to get as much if/when he does sign somewhere

Re: Blues Off-season and 2024-25 Season
Holy cow! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player leave money in the table like this. Maybe I remember mark McGwire leaving a contract offer knowing he was injured/done, but that’s fuzzy childhood memory of someone telling me third hand so unless someone can confirm, assume that’s a confused memory.
If anyone doubted saad’s desire to commitment to playing in the nhl before (I don’t know why one would), leaving millions on the table to have a shot at an nhl roster is a big deal.
Also dang, DA don’t f around and don’t retain salary. Wow!
Saad gave the Blues a gift.
That said I’ll bet he has a chip on his shoulder and a nice bounce back year. I hope he has a few more good years, he’s only 32.

McGwire had an extension sitting just waiting for his signature, but he never signed it. He absolutely left money on the table. I don't remember how much it would have been for though.

According to ChatGPT, he left a 2 year contract for 30 mil on the table when he retired.

The NHL is projecting a significant increase in the salary cap over the next three seasons, according to a memo the league and the NHL Players' Association sent to teams on Friday.
According to the memo, obtained by ESPN, the salary cap for 2025-26 will rise to $95.5 million, with a floor of $70.6 million. In 2026-27, it is projected to increase to $104 million with a floor of $76.9 million, and in 2027-28, it will again go up to $113.5 million with a floor of $83.9 million.
The NHL's current salary cap is $88 million with a floor of $65 million.

Maybe making a push to acquire EP wouldn’t be a bad idea. In two years $11m won’t hurt so bad. Roughly the equivalent of Thomas/Kyrou’s contracts this year. (As % of the cap) he’s at the right age for our push…
Also yeah, good luck to saad!
