So you're saying there's a chance?

Post by JS04 »

Follow me here..

Cards are now 7.5 back of Braves in WC, with no other team to jump (Giants are a half game behind Birds)

Braves go Beachy vs. Oswalt tomorrow night, Cards have Carpenter vs. Greinke

Braves then go to NY for a DH on Thursday, where they have Tehran vs. Schwinden and Minor vs. Gee

Is it inconceivable to think we could be 6.5 out starting the weekend set? Oswalt hasn't been great, but Phils are tough to beat at home, and it's not easy to sweep a DH no matter who you're playing...but Carp can't be bad Carp tomorrow night..

As for weekend series, matchups are:
Friday - Garcia vs. Delgado - Cards favored big here IMO
Saturday - E-Jax vs. Lowe - Cards favored big here too IMO
Sunday - Westbrook vs. Hudson - Braves favored big here

(I believe these are the pitching matchups...going by what they've done the past week)

So...imperative you take the first 2, and now you're 4.5 out with a huge swing game Sunday. Win that, and you're 3.5 out with these remaining schedules:

Braves: 6 vs. Marlins (3 home, 3 away), 3 vs. Mets (home), 3 vs. Nats (road - Stras start?), 3 to finish year at home vs. Phils (this could hurt, as Phils could set up post-season rotation)

Cards: 3 @ Pit, 4 @ Phils, 3 home vs. Mets, 3 home vs. Cubs, 3 @ Houston

If you can somehow get to the final series within a game, you'd have to like chances with us playing Houston and Braves playing Philly

We should know by Monday whether or not we can stay interested...hope the guys know they've got a shot if they sweep Braves this weekend...

I refuse to get my hopes up until after the Braves series. Every time I get excited about this team, they go and piss it away. We'll see if this time is different.

Show me the money, Cardinals. Show me the money.

Well, if you want to get super optimistic..

Braves somehow get swept tomorrow, and we sweep this weekend

2.5 out with 15 games left...do-able

So if the Braves are swept tomorrow and we take them all this weekend, we are 2.5 back with 16 to play? I'm OK with that.

You betcha, and as I said in the original post...the pitching matchups for Friday/Saturday are pretty darn favorable in Cards direction
