the world series bets
St. Louis didn't just win the World Series on Friday night. The Cardinals' victory ensured that the city would collect on friendly wagers with counterparts in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. What did we win? According to this list of World Series bets compiled a couple of weeks ago by NBC's metroplex affiliate, St. Louis will receive...

- from Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck: food from Marquez Bakery, Nolan Ryan Steaks, Olenjack's Grille and Spring Creek Barbeque

- from the Arlington City Council: J. Gilligan's "Irish" nachos, fajitas from El Gabacho Mexican Restaurant, a triple chocolate cake from Ventana Grille, baklava from Prince Lebanese Grill and "Pumpkin Spice Root Beer" from Twisted Root Burger Company

"Irish" nachos are just loaded fries, if you're wondering. Oh, but there's more.

- from Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings: charity in the form of a $1,000 fellowship to honor someone for his or her community service

- from Texas Governor Rick Perry, in a bet with Governor Nixon: an autographed copy of Rick Perry's Debating Tactics for Dummies Salt Lick barbecue and Dr. Pepper

- from U.S. Rep. Joe Barton, who represents the Arlington are, in a wager with Rep. Lacy Clay: more barbecue from Spring Creek and a case of Lone Star beer

- from the Diocese of Fort Worth, in a bet with the Diocese of St. Louis: barbecue and a Stetson hat

(Seriously, a Stetson hat.)

- the director of the Dallas Zoo, having lost to the St. Louis Zoo, will shovel a thousand pounds of elephant crap while wearing a Cardinals jersey (also known as "Pulling a Rasmus")

We hope the politicians enjoy all those goodies. And, Governor Nixon, if you wouldn't mind setting aside some of that Salt Lick barbecue, we can make it to Jefferson City in time for a late dinner.

Pedro Gomez was at it again, on a local PHX he said that Texas was the better team and should have won, but sometimes the best team does not win, just the team playing best..... but isn't that the best team?
He also went on to tell the local hosts that if the Dbacks had gotten past the Brewers, that he thinks the Cards would have lost to the Dbacks, because AZ had better pitching than the Cards.

Even after going through the best records teams in the NL, and the AL champs, the Cards still are not getting the respect they deserve.

that's the benefit of having playoffs instead of letting dumbass media members vote in polls a la college football. It doesn't matter what Pedro Gomez thinks, the World Series banner will be flying in St. Louis in perpetuity.

Absolutely. This has been an incredible year that this city will never forget, and no media outlet can ever take that away.
