yeah, on 101 tonight he was totally on board, not ready to retire. even sounded like he'd go somewhere else if the new manager and he didn't get along. definite caveat re wife's health thoughclevername wrote:so Duncan plans to coach next year?
odd that he's the one returning and TLR is the one retiring. Thought it would be the reverse of that.

Re: Update p 2: Tony LaRussa Retires
I'm not old enough to remember when Tony LaRussa wasn't manager. I was 6 when he took over. This is so.. just.. weird. I was extremely critical of Tone like everyone else but I was crushed when I came upstairs this morning and saw him on the news. Just blown away.
Kinda want Tito, but at this point I'm open for whoever.

To think he got a law degree in case baseball didn't work out. Seems kind of funny now.sighyoung wrote:[/youtube]Fan_In_NY wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oHrygsiNfc

He explained bullpen-gate pretty much exactly the same, said he got calls from other AL managers afterward saying they experienced noise and phone troubles too.
Before he jokingly said he couldn't remember which story to tell since he had been making so many up to try and cover how bad he screwed up.
His interview was definitely more funny than David Freese's.

I still want to say this, maybe more clearly - he said he started taking things too personally. that his players were trying to get big enough leads so he couldn't screw them up and he took it too personally.
I could see that in August.
I bet on some levels, this is his biggest middle finger ever, you know?

Re: Update p 2: Tony LaRussa Retires
I remember the night Carp picked lint off his uni when TLR came out to switch pitchers sometime around the max-fail point. TLR's eyes went buggy from something Carp said. Wonder if that was part of it.
But I also think TLR is smart enough to know he's lost a step. It is great the team made it easy and he got to go out on top. Perfect for all concerned.
