Same with that "old ways" song. It'd be a deep cut on a Jason Isbell record, or more likely just not make the cut, but it's supposed to be the thing that makes us buy B Coop as the voice of a generation type songwriter. That's an impossible task, but still.

Ed Harris being like the 17th superior officer to chew out 50 year old Maverick sounds like a Funny or Die skit

Interesting. Lukas Nelson helped GaGa and Cooper with those songs. He plays with Neil Young, and has a fairly notable father, as songwriters go. Maybe he was Rick Rubin, hands-off kind of partner.

That is fair. In concert- Isbell made light of his 1st "hit song", and felt obliged to play it , the pop-familiarity went over well with the crowd (and my wife. )

Glad to see Isbell make some $$$ while not selling out "Last of my Kind" which easily could have fit the movie.

The new Lion King was the same exact story, but visually stunning. I'm not mad about paying $10 to see it on a big screen.

Toy Story 4 was pretty good too.

From the director of The Witch:

Very hyped for this. The Witch is one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Saw The Farewell over the weekend. It's a nicely performed story about a Chinese-American family that goes back to China to be with the family matriarch because she's dying of cancer. But in a Chinese custom, nobody has told her this information. It's both funny and sweet and achingly sad, and a great meditation on immigration from the perspective both of the part of the family that left the old country, and the part that stayed behind.

Akwafina (sp?) turns in a really eye opening, thoughtful, touching performance.
