I always liked her voice, and some of the tunes are pretty damn catchy, but do her lyrics still sound like they were written by a 14-year-old trying to shock her parents? If the quoted line is any indication, I'm guessing yes.33anda3rd wrote:The new Lana Del Ray album is pretty great. I think she's the badass that every weird girl who is way too into Lizzo thinks she is.Smith Corks One wrote:I always liked her voice, and some of the tunes are pretty damn catchy, but do her lyrics still sound like they were written by a 14-year-old trying to shock her parents? Daniel Johnston died. I'm in a heavy Mountain Goats phase, which I strongly suggest, and I literally looked into this guy two days before he died (though there must have been a few near misses for me to know him, I'd guess--I spend time in that lane). It's really great to read tributes on social media and elsewhere when artists die these days. Really inspiring and comforting.

I highly recommend the documentary The Devil and Daniel Johnston, if anyone wants to learn more.

I just ran across the band YYNOT. They are inspired by Rush, but they have a female singer and original songs.
If you're a fan of progressive rock, heavy bass lines, and/or female vocalists, give them a try.
