Alternative Christmas Songs
It's only December 3, and if I hear Jingle Bell Rock again I will set myself on fire. Have a Holly Jolly Christmas is the same. At the movies the other night, before the previews they played some song by an american idol-caliber girl about Santa Clause surfing. This is all horrible, repetitive bull [expletive].
So list the best alternatives to the awful 15-20 Christmas songs they play on the loudspeakers for 2 solid months before Christmas every year. There really are some fun Christmas songs out there. Old Navy just won't be playing them to get you to buy another performance fleece.
1. "Merry Christmas, I Don't Want To Fight Tonight" by the Ramones
I miss the Ramones. This video is so 80s in all the best ways.
2. "Christmas in Hollis" by RUN DMC
Nobody has ever disliked this song in the history of the world. That's science.
3. "Christmas at Ground Zero" by Weird Al
Is it the cheeriest song about the apocalypse of all time? (Sorry, Fishbone. It is.) Black humor has never been done this well. The Cold War really did produce some good music. Way better than the War on Terror.
4. "Santa's Beard" by They Might Be Giants
A chipper song about losing your girl to Santa, that bastard.
5. "The Pogues," Fairy Tale of New York
Maybe becoming a bit of a cliche, but it's the song you want playing on the jukebox when you can't take being in your parents' house any longer and you go to a dive bar at 10 pm on Christmas night for some desperation drinking.
I don't want to list any more. Your turn people.
EDIT: Dammit Michael, you went and screwed up all the youtube formatting BUT I FIXED IT YOU'RE WELCOME

Re: Alternative Christmas Songs
I should preface this by saying I love all Christmas music, even the repetitive bull.
That said, if you're burnt out on the familiar tunes:

Re: Alternative Christmas Songs
I get addicted to that song once a year.
There's this, I guess. Warning- may contained a foul-mouthed Joe Pesci singing about Santa's fat ass.
