Needed: Music for running

Post by heyzeus »

I need more music to stock my itunes playlist for running. I'm getting tired of hearing the same White Stripes and Kanye songs. The genre doesn't really matter to me (hip hop, punk, metal, indie rock are all good) as long as it's a song that inspires my lazy ass to keep going. Help.

You run with your phone or just an ipod? Pandora is great when running.

For longer runs (10+ miles), I can't listen to music...it just starts annoying me.

More and more, I skip the music alltogether- for safety reasons - trails and path's shared with bikers. The mind seems to latch onto something. I'm trying to get better at running, so hearing things such as my feet, and breathing helps.

But yeah, when I need music for a slog, I just play the ipod and click past songs as needed. Prefer the mellower stuff on a long run with occassional upbeat.

Edit - Pandora can drive me batty because it conks out and not as easy to skip songs as ipod - and the samsung weighs too much. Took it on the trail runs recently to take pics, and was ready to chuck it over the ledge.

At the gym, I can sometimes tolerate listening to a podcast (talk).

Gorilla Warfare Tactics - Zoology
Crystal Fighters - You & I
Joywave - Tongues (feat. KOPPS)

How about the 70s playlist?

Right now my big three are:
Daft Punk
Explosions in the Sky (for mellow runs)
Madlib

...I try to avoid lyrics when I run...so loops, beats, or post-rock does well with me.

Good ideas. I have two Explosions in the Sky songs in my playlist now, and the Daft Punk-Kanye collaboration. I should put in more.
