update on Foxconn scam of US/WI taxpayers via Trump, Paul Ryan, Walker

Sounds like the Taiwanese company wants to mfg coffee makers there instead of the cutting edge uber-g tech products
Beyond the tension over what type of LCD factory may get built, if any, Foxconn has been vague about what it’s actually going to do in Wisconsin. The trend has been of scaled-back and delayed plans. At one point, Foxconn unveiled designs for a giant glass orb that would house a data center, and then changed its mind. Ideas extend as far as manufacturing robot coffee kiosks (though there’s been no talk of making iPhones)

Two years after the deal was signed, ground has been cleared and concrete has been poured. But nothing has been manufactured. Only about $150 million in contracts have been awarded by Foxconn, less than 2% of the original $10 billion investment plan

Turns out to be fake news. But you do have to wonder how far we are from something like this.

https://www.esquireme.com/content/47203 ... -bodyguard
A new video has being doing the rounds online, purportedly featuring Bahrain’s King - Hamad bin Isa bin Salman al-Khalifa – and his ‘robot bodyguard’.

The video has been watched thousands of times online, as well as featured on DY365 network news channel.

Unfortunately, as much as we’d love the video to be true – robot bodyguards are certainly a concept we can get behind – it’s not. A closer look at the video shows that the Emir of Bahrain was not featured, and the ‘robot’ in question is actually a person dressed up.

The video was recorded during the IDEX security exhibition last year, held at Dubai International Financial Center. You can see the UAE flag on the eight-foot ‘robot’ as he walks by the camera.

The robot in questions is actually called ‘Titan’ which is a regular figure at many of Dubai’s trade expos. Titan is the world’s first commercial entertainment robot artist, which was developed by British company Cyberstein.

Sounds like millions of workers will be affected in the next 5 years. Buckle up, everyone!
Machines to 'do half of all work tasks by 2025'

Half of all work tasks will be handled by machines by 2025 in a shift likely to worsen inequality, a World Economic Forum report has forecast. The think tank said a "robot revolution" would create 97 million jobs worldwide, but destroy almost as many, leaving some communities at risk. WEF said currently around a third of all work tasks were handled by machines, with humans doing the rest, but by 2025 the balance would shift.

Routine or manual jobs in administration and data processing were most at threat of automation, WEF said. But it said new jobs would emerge in care, big data and the green economy.
