March 4: KISS
May 3: Garth Brooks
May 26: Foreigner
June 29: 3 Doors Down / Collective Soul / Fuel
July 20: Backstreet Boys (not me, just the wife and a friend of hers from college that's coming into town for the show)
August 3: Santana / Doobie Brothers
August 22: Hootie & The Blowfish / Barenaked Ladies

On the bubble:
July 13: Steve Miller Band
September 21: Avett Brothers / Trampled by Turtles

I'm sure we'll add at least another 3-4 shows to the list, but a lot of the outdoor venues (and the State Fair) haven't announced their full lineups for the year yet.
Looks like The Who are coming back to St. Paul in September, except this time their new tour includes a full orchestra at every stop. I'm not a huge Who fan, but they're legends that have certainly had their fair share of hits that everyone knows - and the addition of an orchestra on stage makes me think of Metallica's S&M show.

We still have plenty of time, so perhaps this will be another show added to our docket. Has anyone seen them recently and can tell how they were live?

My advice you didn't ask for: see more mid-level bands. Much cheaper and a better experience.

Agree as a rule.

Re old bands/artists, some are playing out the string and some just get better and better. John Prine at 72(ish) was terrific. Highly recommend. YMMV so I guess if you’re having a good time seeing a half assed version of a huge hit but having a great time, good for you.

We haven't done the stupid expensive experience for a few years now - a few years ago we paid over $300 per person for AC/DC (worth it), Guns & Roses (semi-worth it), and Bruce Springsteen (not worth it). Generally, I refuse to pay over $100/ticket, which luckily eliminates a large chunk of the top acts (whether current or old acts). The most expensive one I've paid for this year was Garth Brooks, which were $90 each.

And overall, I agree. We're seeing Santana/Doobie Brothers mostly because the wife has told me for years she wants to see the Doobie Brothers, and we missed them a year or two ago when they were touring with Journey.

If they're bucket list type shows or these "final tour forever" ones, we're more apt to go see them even if they're shells of their former selves. It was that way last summer with John Fogerty and ZZ Top. Fogerty was absolutely fantastic, and ZZ.... was not. We walked out halfway through their set.

Neither of us are big Who fans, but know enough of their stuff that we'd consider it. Having an orchestra on stage with them could be interesting.
