Portland -Voodoo Donuts was much better than I expected. Local Strange Donuts (Voodoo concept copier) was the baseline (Strange not that good IMO )
Been told Blue Star is THE donut.

Re -Hipster donuts -the Simpsons have at least one episode spoofing it. This is one I recall -worth tracking down

The dude at strange pretty much admitted the place was a hipster gimmick. Then bombed his American Chinese place.

Re the Nashville spot, you talking about cronuts that were all the rage a couple years ago?

Fo real tho, try the donut at Knead. It’s expensive but who cares. It’s big. It’s delicious. It’s tangy w sourdough. It’s sweet. You only need 1.

There's a Voodoo Donuts here in Austin, where everything hipster either originates or sets up shop for #branding purposes. It's ok. Chances are there's a donut shop in your city now that also puts like Cocoa Pebbles and pop rocks on a donut and gives it a sexual innuendo-laden name.

Anecdote time! I took my kids to the Austin Voodoo Donut on like a saturday at 10am. The cashier was wearing a tshirt that had the characters from Green Eggs and Ham, but the shirt said "I'd like to [expletive] those green eggs and ham." Fortunately neither of the kiddos could read yet.

My opinions have never been valued in any thread in GRB history... except maybe the Kate Beckinsale thread or the thread formerly known as the Babes thread.

My Mother in law makes some killer Romanian doughnuts...
