It's just a speculative commodity like any other, and they all took a massive hit this week as the market tanked and investors put their money in actual currency.
But also, it's less secure and less useful than the massive, secure, universally accepted apparatus that is electronic fund transactions (banks, credit cards, debit cards, etc).
