I know it's a phrase, but "out of pocket" to imply unavailable drives me crazy. Like, who's pocket are you in when you are available???

I'm big on usage trumping dictionaries or "correct" grammar, but "all the sudden" makes no sense and just bugs me.

What is a sudden and how do you group them together into an "all"? Is it already plural like deer?
