I had to visit the great city of St. Louis today to see my doctor at Barnes and the trip down was pleasant. In fact I had my cruise on almost all the way to 270 which is amazing. The way home though was a mess. Of course I'm leaving my appointment right at 4pm, but I guess the Cardinal game let out around then too? Anyway, it took me over an hour to just get to Chesterfield where I decided I needed a soda and to just not be on the mess that is 64 for a while. After some time I got back on the road and somewhere around highway N there was even more mess. All in all my normal two hour trip took me 3.5 hours.
I don't know how you city people do it. It was stressful and I just wanted off the road.

I have driven in a lot of cities but for the midwest...Chicago is the worst and Cincinnati second worst in my experience. St. Louis is a pain if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time but usually I don't have much trouble navigating around there. Familiarity with the area probably helps.

Re: Rant: Traffic
Just going to tack this on here - why don't people on the highway zipper merge for lane closures? Is anyone against this in principle? We came back from vacation this past weekend and I probably saved 5 minutes of waiting by using the wide open left lane for maybe half a mile. Or maybe the question is why don't DOT's promote it?
Sure some people are aggressive and other are stubborn about letting people in, but most of the time it's fine.
