I hope the Nazareth Center in South County proves to be a good option. We have a Nazareth home here in Louisville that is the best facility in the city. It was built to serve retired nuns, but takes others. The downside: in Louisville, it had a two-year waiting list, which wasn't an option for me.Molly wrote:Rad, you and your sisters should check out Nazareth Living Center in south county.

In other words, start looking now--but you know this.
Another thing, Rad: I would suggest looking for a facility where your mother can transition, say, from assisted living to skilled nursing, and one that will accept Medicaid, should your mother's assets get spent down and she becomes eligible. A social worker who specializes in working with the elderly can make solid suggestions, but family will want to see the facilities first-hand.
I wouldn't suggest a for-profit place: it may bounce your mother once she no longer has assets, and you wind up scrambling.
I'll shut up--it's just that I went through all this through the middle of this year.
