Our 4 year old Samsung is now two weeks shy of 5 and the refrigerator half is dead. My wife has regularly over the course of the last year used a hair dryer to melt the ice accumulation. It's the Ozark Okie in her that she has been doing this instead of replacing the damned thing.

Well yesterday, after the hair dryer treatment, the fridge refused to cool.

So we'll put it in the garage as an overflow freezer and purchase a new one.

Less than 5 years for a $1500 appliance. Terrible.

And recommendations?

I've started the hair dryer routine on mine, ugh.

Yep that is precisely my experience with my Samsung
Fridge. By the end I was hair drying the coil every three days. What a piece of crap.

We got a great deal on Whirlpool from a Sears outlet. One of the handles was scratched, so we got it for about $600 off. I recommend this route, especially in an era where
Consumer electronics are built with absurd planned obsolescence.

Don't underestimate the value of shopping online. I bought my Grandma a fridge from Home Depot online a few years ago and saved about $200 off the in-store price.

I've had a $200.00 refurbished side by side for the last 8 years. Still going strong.

I have found that the ice doesn't accumulate if you don't push the bucket thing in all the way. And it still makes ice.

I got home from work today and my eight million year old refrigerator was dead. So I get to do my own fridge shopping now
