Hey I got through today!
After 45 minutes I got someone with a fax machine, and she could help. After three brief (10 minute) holds to check the guidelines for making appointments for a third party, the person was able to help. So I'm not as angry as I was.

Did I tell the story of my encounter with the IRS after my mother died? They had my sister dead-to-rights on a big mistake she made on Mom's return the year before. It's kind of a long story but ended surprisingly OK. In fact, better than I could have hoped.

I got a letter from IRS last month saying I hadn’t filed my 2019 tax return. It was easy to prove they were wrong since I owed money and mailed a check. Couldn’t get through by phone, so I filled out the form they sent and included a copy of return and cancelled check, so ball is back in their court.

Holy schnikeys Batman! I e-filed my taxes Friday and BOOM goes the dynamite, there's my substantial (I didn't get stimulus payments throughout the year but qualified with this year's earnings) refund tonight!

SHAZAM!!

That's great news, because I haven't found a new CPA/tax preparer yet. (Is that bad?)

I actually hate this decision, because I drive 4 hours each way to do taxes in my SD office on weekends. I will have several stragglers that will expect me to continue to come every weekend until the new deadline.

I will not.

I heard whispers that the AICPA (American Institute of CPA's) was lobbying for this, and in my mind that helped make the decision. I don't get it, taxes aren't any worse for preparers than any other year.
