The 1554 Black Ale is a very good beer.

JL has me hooked on this stuff. Glad I brought a couple of 6-packs home, but it's almost gone.

I know this really belongs in the microbrew thread but...

Finally made it to the Platte Valley Brewery in Kearney. It is solid. Very quaint, even for a Wednesday night. It's the kind of place where you're going if you want to have a beer and don't care about much else. Didn't have any food this time around. The Red Rock wheat was very good...darker than most beers and not as grainy as most wheat beers are. My favorite of that kind. Only knock on it was no Pale Ales, my drink of choice.

Will probably check out Thunderhead (the other microbrew in town) tomorrow.

Do you not like smoked beers, or just not theirs? It's not outstanding, but it's light years better than that watered down peach juice they call Wheach.

Smoked flavor is something that requires a delicate touch. That crap tastes like that time I poured myself a draft beer in a sooty glass while putting out the fire at J's on The Landing.

I don't think smoked beers *have* to be delicate. I enjoy a heavy smoked flavor. Rauchbier is one of my favorite styles. So I have no beefs with it.

So what's your justification for liking Wheach? You like water and you like peaches?

The only thing with a smokey flavor that should be drinkable are soups.

Not a fan of drinking smoke either in liquor or beer.
