Dragons are gonna rock, I just hope on the right side of the war.
Loved the last scene, and the one when they were leaving to go past the wall.
Suprised they made Robb king. So, currently, there's 2 kings(Robb and Little [expletive]), plus Daenrys over the sea?
The first 10 minutes of the finale sure make me look forward to when Geoffrey is gonna get killed. I hope it's the littlest Stark that does it.
At this point, there are five declared Kings/Queens of Westeros. Joffrey sits on the Iron Throne. Renly and Stannis, Robert's brothers, have both declared themselves King, although the show hasn't had time to develop them. That will certainly happen early in season 2. Robb is King of the North. Daenarys , I suppose, hasn't declared, but assumes herself the rightful Queen of Westeros, even if she's on another continent. [expletive] gets real in the next two seasons. Some major factions haven't even been introduced yet.
Still haven't seen the finale. I'm currently about halfway through re-re-re-reading book 2, making good time in preparation for book 5 coming out in less than a month (I am 498 times more excited for this book than HBO season 2. Nerd boner)

Nice, thanks for explaining it as is currently on TV and not spoliing anything ahead.
Book 5 is coming out soon, and the plan is a total of 7 books right? I hope they come out in time to make all of them into the TV series.
Correct. The timeline gets weird for books 4 and 5. Basically, GRRM wrote himself into a corner after book 3 (because so, so, so much happens in books 2 and 3). He kept writing and writing, had to ditch an early plan to have a five year gap to let the kids grow up a little. Realized it didn't make any sense, because he had so many flashbacks going on. Scrapped that idea, and eventually published book 4 basically featuring all the crap happening around Kings Landing at the time, and leaving everything else for book 5.
Book 5 will deal with Wall stuff, North stuff, Across-the-Sea stuff, and other stuff you don't know about yet, to get concurrent with book 4. Then the last third or so apparently will advance everything together, to get the books back to a unified timeline. Several of the very favorite characters from book 3 made either no appearance or only had one or two chapters in book 4, so I've been waiting for new content for Wall stuff since Storm of Swords came out in 2000-freaking-3.
If the TV show continues to season 4, they'll almost certainly combine parts of the 4th and 5th books. Although I continue to be skeptical that Book 3 will be able to be a single season. It has like 5 times as many major, major events as Book 1, and still needs time for character development stuff. And nudity.
I think I heard somewhere that they were leaning towards making book 3 two seasons. Which makes sense if they anticipate filming the entire series.
It took GRRM 5 years to write book 5 after publishing book 4, and he already had half the book written.
If they do each book per season they'll be ready to start filming book six in 5 years. And Book 7 in six.
But that also leads to the issue of more time passing for the series than in the book. Suddenly a 14 year old Arya Stark is going to be played by a 21 year old actress.
Book 1 was easy for adaptation, I'm really curious to see how they'll film book 2 (very expensive to film everything in the book), book 3 (crazy long book), book 4 (has a parallel timeframe to book 5) and book 6-7 (haven't been written yet).
clevername wrote:no way they can fit all of book 3 into 10 episodes, so the 2 season idea doesn't sound bad to me. It's going to be difficult fitting book 2 into 10.
I'm expecting them to cut major parts of Book 2, if not for time then for budgetary reasons.
In season two you have:
Dragons in basically every Dany's scene
Warlocks and that House of the Undying scene
Giants and Mammoths and more Others
Wargs
Shadows and priests birthing them.
Undead dudes
The giant freaking battle at King's Landing
Direwolves that are much bigger than the current dogs
Jaqen Hagar and his shapeshifting face
I can't blame anybody who hated the finale. If you told me ahead of time it would end that way, I would probably say I'd hate it too. But, I do think it's a gutsy thing to do, and I can admire that (even if I do think they could've just been forthright, too).
