The only other situation remotely like this that I can ever remember is the infamous case that all of us Cardinal fans know and hate--the 1987 Minnesota Twins. Who were outscored on the year, had a pythagorean W-L of 79-83, and went 29-52 on the road but 56-25 at home.maddash wrote:In all seriousness, why haven't one of the bigger stat driven sites tackled this? You think with an outlier this big, FanGraphs or Baseball Think Factory would be chomping at the bit to try and explain it. Do MGL and Tango still visit GRB?
I am not a conspiracy theorist by any means, but the 2011 Brewers sure do look weird.

Yeah, but even the 1987 Twins hitting stats don't come that close. The Twins had a bigger split with their pitching stats to add up to the big difference in W/L records.Vidor wrote:The only other situation remotely like this that I can ever remember is the infamous case that all of us Cardinal fans know and hate--the 1987 Minnesota Twins. I'm well aware that most of the people in this thread are being sarcastic.
I'm still not above taunting, however.

Well in any case, the brewers are a pretty dang good team that will probably win the central. I take comfort in the fact that there will be an asterisk by their name in the record books though.
