Just read it. Wow. Cubs fandom is a very scary place. I'd rather suck on the end of a shotgun than let my misery reach the point they seem to be indicating they are at.jim wrote:Ok I read them and I am again very thankful for GRB. If you want to understand about the "best fans in baseball" etc... just compare game threads. That was [expletive] mind numbing, but I come to expect that from Cubs fans. As a group they are just dumb about baseball.

Yeah that was a miserable group in their playoff thread. That Illinois Guy mentions his wife's family being [expletive] card fans and trying to get his kid some [expletive] Card gear, and he [expletive] [expletive] blah blah blah. And a couple more of them are Cub fans living in St. Louis region and have all this hatred for hillbilly cardinal fans blah blah blah. I sort of feel sorry for their spouses or their mom who's basesment they live in.cards2468 wrote:Just read it. Wow. Cubs fandom is a very scary place. I also like one Cub fan who says he doesn't care about the 11 Card WS (but doesn't mention all the pennants), ...reason being most of those occurred in someone elses lifetime. As far as he's concerned -its only 2-0 Cards, and now that they have Theo...blah blah blah.
But then again-that thread probably functions as form of group therapy for unhinged (fringe? or not fringe?) Cub fans. They really shouldn't take this so tough - what goes around comes around and eventually the Cubs could get it together and will have more pennants and WS than the Cards. And with cryogenics and a little help from science, they may get to see it in about 500 years.
...Back to the WS game 6 - the sidestories to the game were pretty rich. -Like John Jay going 0 for the series until the wee stages of game 6 when it mattered most. But the biggie had to be the looming Pujols last at bat hanging over the game. Since the game 3 explosion, he had been hitless as we all know. And game 5,wasn't a proud moment for #5. So when he grounded out to finish the 7th, there was a decent chance that was how it ends... and then...you could hardly write a better finish to that side story.

If I download some games from iTunes is there an easy way to burn them to DVD?

What really made game 6 so great was how well the Rangers played. Have to tip your cap. They "won" that game like 3 times, at least...only to lose it each time. Beltre and Cruz going back to back...Cruz's upper deck shot was kind of an exclamation point. Then they also tacked on another run that inning after that. That should have been enough.
Then Hamilton's HR in the 10th also should have been enough.
The Rangers really played well enough to win that game on a normal night. I think their bullpen was a bit worn out though and just couldn't quite slam the door. In hindsight, I think Washington actually made the right move by bringing in Holland to try to close it out. Yeah, he burned him so he couldn't use him in game 7, but Washington probably guessed that the Rangers wouldn't win a game 7 on the road, anyway. Their best bet was to try to close out game 6. And if the bullpen really was gassed, then using Holland may have saved them a bit. I think it was the right move. Maybe he should have left in Holland longer! It was just a single that knocked him out (well, after the Craig HR 2 batters earlier). I think I might have left him in until he got into a bit more trouble.
Also looking at the play by play - yeah, Jay had a key single in the 10th inning, but he also singled before that in the 8th off Adams. He finally broke out of his slump.

Trust me: I've worked directly with very depressed people. But that whole thread was, well...ThatGuy wrote:The Game 6 comments at NSBB are a fascinating foray into the tortured psyche of Cubs fans. It's wonderful but sad. If they didn't have the golden child coming in next season... yikes.
If it were just pathos it would be understandable. But the sheer vitriol! Again, wow.

Something I thought about later: Beltre could have thrown out Descalso at the plate on Theriot's grounder. It would have been a routine play. I realize you want an out and don't want to take any chances, but that would have kept the tying run out of scoring position, which is a big deal. Surprised it was never mentioned.

I was surprised when it happened, but then I thought "I guess since Descalso isn't the tying run, they just need to focus on outs". Afterall, it's a tag play at home, a play that can easily be botched, and if they throw it away, they're in serious trouble (even though they ended up losing).jagtrader wrote:Something I thought about later: Beltre could have thrown out Descalso at the plate on Theriot's grounder. Exactly; they took the sure out rather than try for the man at home, and it almost worked - they did, you'll recall, get within one strike of retiring Berkman.
