I really, really, really did not see this coming. After the Marlins dropped out, I thought it was a lock that he was signing with us. I figured the "two other suitors" stuff was just the media manufacturing a story, or Lozano trying to pressure the Cards into upping their offer.

In the end, it’s sad to see him go and I am upset about it, but that kind of money is insane for a guy in his 30’s. they will be paying him $25 million when he’s 42.

Nitpicking, but if his stated age is his actual age, then his 10th season in Anaheim will end when he's 41.

I made peace with him being gone a long time ago. I'm not going to say this didn't surprise me when I saw this this morning, but it's certainly not earth-shattering. Can't complain too much: brought me a lot of joy to see him help lead the team to playoff appearances, two rings, and a lot of success.

Yeah, I've been pointing out AP to my kids, explaining to them they're watching history. To them, Cards and AP were synonymous. I guess I get to explain to them the business side of pro sports. Joy.
