Oh for [expletive]'s sake.
well, he did. I have no problem with that headline. It's true.

I'm glad the Cards didn't throw that kind of money at him, still sad he's gone though. Everyone here has seen his seeming decline in hitting (swing at a lot more junk and waaay too many dp's) and we all know he is a ticking timebomb for a major injury.

Maybe the Cards can get a guy who will actually run hard down the first base line now...

Assuming a little drop in production from Berkman, increased production from having Craig in the lineup every day, getting Wainwright back, having an already sorted out bullpen that isn't going to give up ten or eleven or whatever it was walkoff losses, kicking Theriot's terrible defense to the curb, and hoping for a little better luck for players health-wise (Craig, Freese, Holliday, etc.), right now, they're probably about the same team as the 2011 Cardinals were, around 88-90 wins worth.

They could improve on that figure slightly with some wise front office moves, and they're not hamstringing the team from 2014 onward with a terrible contract.

Sucks to lose Albert the "legacy" and the current Albert, but the 2014-onward $250 million dollar man could get pretty ugly really quickly.

Mo's refusal to talk to the media is puzzling. Seems like a good time for damage control.

Strauss saying the Marlins package was worth more than the Angels (because of tax/lack of)...apparently the NTC was a huge issue

I prepared myself that the Cardinals would give out a bad contract, and I kind of justified it in my head because we would get to retain our superstar....I did not prepare myself for this...I'm very disappointed. He's not the man I thought he was, all those comments about it not being about the money, not wanting to play anywhere else and all that crap, was just that, crap.

I'm sure we will still be competitive, I don't doubt that, but it won't be the same.

Funny...because he had that protection with us.

So it was strictly about the money.

I took it as control was more important than money...Turned down more money with Marlins because there was no control...but signed with the Angels instead of Cards because of Money...hum I guess it was about both control and money

I think fans are just accepting of this. It would have been good for St. Louis and baseball fans in general to have Pujols stay, but I think all of us knew that there just was no loyalty left in sports at all. The money is just too big now. We got Albert at an incredible bargain - has there ever been a more underpaid player in the history of sports? He probably did have a chip on his shoulder a little bit that we weren't paying him back. And truth be told, it did take a better offer to move him.
