Re: Pujols Signs With Angels
Wainwright is a huge plus obviously, but Berkman is a year older and so isn't everyone else. We don't have a shortstop or a 2b and I think some players on our team played out of their ass last year and I don't expect a repeat. Again I felt this way prior to Pujols leaving.
I guess my problem is I'm not sure which Cardinals team is the real one, the one that sucked for half a season or the one that played like God's in the playoffs.

And we don't have Tony. I think he played a large part in their comeback.IMADreamer wrote:Wainwright is a huge plus obviously, but Berkman is a year older and so isn't everyone else. Re: Pujols Signs With Angels
Let's look at it this way. okay......
Wano is going to offset the decline in the rotation that will happen from 2011.
The bullpen will be better. Say a couple wins.
Berkman replaces pujols. Loss of a couple wins.
OF stays the same. Maybe a win or two better with Craig.
Infield outside 1B improves a couple wins if they resign Furcal and keep Theriot out of SS and Freese stays healthy....
I don't feel too bad. Use that $$ for whatever glaring hole they see *cough* SS/2B *cough*
I am not feeling too bad.
Obvious KEY positions: John Jay, Allen Craig, 2B, SS

I'm sorry if this has already been addressed, or is a stupid question, but does this make you guys more likely to keep Jackson?
I hope not for our sake. I like him a lot.

Reaction from Red Schoendienst made me both smile and a tiny bit saddened:
http://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseball ... 0f31a.htmlRed Schoendienst wrote:"It's a funny thing. If he had stayed here, he could have had a statue right up next to Musial's."
Of Pujols' new contract, Schoendienst laughed and said, "In one time at-bat, he's going to make more than I made in my 18 years of playing. But I hope he stays healthy and keeps going."

I don't know. I don't really see it unless they really dislike Westbrook or Lohse. Right now, you've already got Wainwright, Garcia, Carpenter, Lohse, Westbrook. Someone would have to get the boot for E-Jax to fit in there.signthief wrote:I'm sorry if this has already been addressed, or is a stupid question, but does this make you guys more likely to keep Jackson?

Re: Pujols Signs With Angels
I have felt right along that we signed Berkman as insurance against this eventuality. I looked up the stats, and Albert and Lance were almost carbon copies on offense last year. With Lance on first, we just need to have Craig come close to matching Berkman's numbers and we are about where we were. Last years numbers, with Lance first and Albert second: batting average-301-299; hits-147-173; runs-90-105; doubles-23-29; triples-2-0;homers-31-37; rbis-94-99. Not much difference there.
I have watched a lot of players come and go over the years, starting with Johnny Mize in my early fandom, right on through all the players traded, and it is tough at first, but it creates opportunities for the new ones coming along. We have been privileged to see a remarkable decade of a remarkable player, and I think it was the best decade of Albert's career. These obscene contracts are a reward for what you have done in the past, and fingers crossed that you will continue almost as good in the future- at least for a while. Having Pujols in the lineup will be a big boost for Angels attendance, I'm sure they feel that they will peel off some Dodgers fans to help pay the freight. Good luck to one and all. I am glad we did not try to match the offer, it would have been a very bad situation for our club.

Yeah, I guess you'd have to deal one of Westbrook or Lohse. Which would require eating some money. Maybe not the best use of resources for you guys.JL21 wrote:I don't know. Adding Jackson to that rotation and removing Westbrook makes it look pretty damn good though.

Re: Pujols Signs With Angels
So torii hunter was on MLB network and said Pujols called him.
He said Pujols says his decision wasn't about money, but that the angels gave him the best chance to win....
Really Albert? We just won the freakin world series and have wainwright coming back. Really ablest? Really??
