I like the optimism.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote:Let's look at it this way. okay......
Wano is going to offset the decline in the rotation that will happen from 2011.
The bullpen will be better. Say a couple wins.
Berkman replaces pujols. Loss of a couple wins.
OF stays the same. Maybe a win or two better with Craig.
Infield outside 1B improves a couple wins if they resign Furcal and keep Theriot out of SS and Freese stays healthy....
I don't feel too bad. Use that $$ for whatever glaring hole they see *cough* SS/2B *cough*
I am not feeling too bad.
Obvious KEY positions: John Jay, Allen Craig, 2B, SS
AW- it looks to me like the OF gets worse when you replace Berkman's 2011 with Craig. Are you that high on Craig that you think that he adds a win or two above Berkman in 2011?
We also need to add to the bench to have someone give us production that we got from Craig now that Craig is an everyday player.

Not trying to promote Gordon; he just happened to be the one who aggregated all the Twitter reaction to the Pujols signing:

Someone just said that the Angels owner paid more for ten years of Albert than he paid to by the team ($198 million).

Well if you consider that with Albert's contract a team like the Angels can still supplement their team with other superstars. Not saying that the cardinals can't or wouldnt do that (Holliday) but realistically if he took the Cardinals offer of 22+/-M then it would be a lot tougher to resign Wainwright, resign Molina etc, they don't have gaping holes at 2B and SS. The Angels have a ton of revenue and the ability to expand that revenue (TV contract) that will help them be more competitive. Also playing in a division with the Mariners and A's as half the teams in the division makes it a lot easier (and the Astros moving there doesn't change it from basically a 2 team division)cardsfantx wrote:So torii hunter was on MLB network and said Pujols called him.

Now, the Angels do have a very good 3(Weaver/Haren/Wilson) but come on.cardsfantx wrote:So torii hunter was on MLB network and said Pujols called him.

I don't understand all the infatuation with Craig. The dude can't even stay healthy in a part time role. I like him as a player, but its way too optimistic in my opinion to think he can replace Berkman's production in the OF. We just lost our band aid. Albert covers up a lot of the flaws the team had. Now he isn't there. Its put up or shut up time for a lot of players next year. Starting with Jay, Craig, Descalsco and even Freese. They all need to meet or exceed in 2012 for us to be in good shape. Yes Wainwright is coming back and the pen will be better, but we are also missing Tony...he played a big part in that.

Silver lining on this potentially cloudy day:
Would you have rather had Pujols on your team for the first 11 years of his career, or the last 10 years of his career?
