“Saturday Night Live” lampooned Tebow’s fan-boy love for Jesus. In response, Pat Robertson has claimed that the skit demonstrates “anti-Christian bigotry.”
In 1996, Abdul-Rauf refused to stand for the national anthem at an NBA game. A religious storm followed.

Abdul-Rauf claimed in a 2010 interview with HoopsHype.com that “[a]fter the national anthem fiasco, nobody really wanted to touch me.” He played only three more seasons in the NBA before going overseas to play professionally. In that same interview, he discusses how his home in Mississippi was burned down just a few months prior to Sept. 11. He eventually left the state.
But even before his conviction, Ali was causing controversy. Sports Illustrated dubbed Ali the most hated athlete in the world in April 1966. In the same article, Ali’s faith was referred to as being a part of his “fanatically religious side.” Instead of being something to admire, his faith was inconceivable fanaticism.
Pointless in terms of Tim Tebow the QB? Maybe. But it goes beyond the fact that Tebow wouldn't be as popular as a Muslim. He'd probably be vilified. It doesn't bother you that nearly 80% of this country identify as Christian and Pat Robertson is claiming bigotry? That it's ok to vilify Muhammed Ali or Abdul-Rauf for their religious convictions but we should offer Tebow Worship?

If you think it's pointless or not worth discussing - that's fine. It's certainly your prerogative. But there's no need to be so dismissive because joce posted an article you didn't want to talk about.
What if Pat Robertson were Muslim? He'd probably react differently.

What if Taylor Swift was Muslim? She'd probably be treated differently.

What if Derek Rose was Muslim? He'd probably be treated differently.

We could play this game with anybody. None of them ARE Muslim, and neither is Tim Tebow, so what difference does it make. I don't like religious intolerance any more than the next guy does. But that doesn't have anymore to do with Tim Tebow than it does Santa Claus. I don't really see the connection. If you do see a direct connection between Tim Tebow and religious intolerance, then so be it. But I can assure you that this has been going on since before Tim Tebow's great grandfather was born.

If John Fox was Jewish, but also a hot dog, would he eat himself?

Assume that he's a non-kosher hot dog.

Do you really not understand the difference between "differently" and hated?

How about this; Meet George. George is a devout Christian. George gets to be President because he prays to God and Jesus Christ. Meet John. John is a sort of Christian called a Mormon. He gets treated a little different because he doesn't believe in the exact same things as Christians, but they pretty much agree on the big things and no one really cares.

Meet Barry. Barry is not a Christian. He's a Muslim. KILL BARRY!

Of your examples, the only relevant one is Pat Robertson - the outspoken Christian. And if Pat Robertson were Muslim and said "Gays and lesbians caused 9/11" there'd be a lynch mob outside of his house. Not millions of dollars of donations to his club.

Her point wasn't just that Tebow would be treated differently. It's that he would be seen as a villain. Tim Tebow and Matt Stafford are treated differently. Stafford grew up in Floriday/Georgia and is likely a Christian as well and treated differently. Stafford's just not an outspoken Christian so he's treated different. But how would people have treated Az-Zahir Hakim in St. Louis if he was outspoken about his Muslim faith? The same way the treat Stafford? Or would he have been run out of town?

On a related note, Ryan Braun really needs to get traded to Washington.

Muslims are treated differently. That's my point. Some people even "hate" Muslims. So we agree on pretty much everything. That's kinda my point....... nobody is going to dispute the article, because all it does is state the obvious........... in a fairly irrelevant way.

It would really be something if Tebow leads the Broncos to victory over New England this weekend.

Yes they're treated differently. Did you even read the article before dismissing it as irrelevant? The point isn't just that a Muslim would be treated differently. It's that a Muslim Tim Tebow, out-spoken semi-successful profession athlete that "thanked Allah" or starred in a Super Commercial praising the teachings of Muhammed would be marginalized and draw the ire of the American public and not celebrated.

But hey, if you think religious intolerance is 'stating the obvious' and 'irrelevant'...well I don't know what to say.

It's true though, and very obvious. It would be like writing an article in the 1940's about how Stan Musial would be treated if he were black. The article may have been accurate but also irrelevant because it's obvious that color played a huge role at that time and Musial would obviously have been treated differently if he had a different skin color.

Same for Tebow and his faith.

Doesn't make it right, or means we agree with it. It's just an obvious fact right now due to the majority faith of this country and happenings of religious extremists.

So because it's accepted that if Tebow were a muslim, not only would be irrelevant in the NFL he'd be hated it should be swept under the wrong?

Because it's an 'obvious fact' that this country, despite being 'free', is terribly intolerant an article pointing out the double standard is pointless and stupid? Absurd.
