I'm sorry, but I can't let this amazing talent slip through the cracks of GRB. I would very much like to see this performance.

I think Smitty is talking about the worst type of ignorance imaginable: not knowing what you don't know.

You have to expect 18 year olds to have a healthy dose of what I call "meta ignorance." But it does not make it any easier dealing with it on a weekly basis.

I'd imagine this girl is 21-22 yrs old.

I'm glad he refused to put up with her [expletive]. I know those kids. The type that ruin a class by being complete idiots and wasting our time with simple questions that if you don't know the answer, you shouldn't be there anyway. I guess there's "no such thing as a stupid question", but there's also a time and place for certain level of questions, and if you can't keep up with the class, don't bring the rest of the class down to your level.

New Update

Student x has now been caught plagiarizing.

She got an 0 for the assignment and followed university procedures for reporting and documenting it. I didn't give her an F for the course, which I could have.

When I spoke with her outside of class in my office, she admitted that she plagiarized, but kept saying that it was my fault for not being a better professor that she had to plagiarize (should I mention that this was after a class where we were discussing legal and philosophical issues around personal responsibility?).

She goes on. She blames me for giving her a substandard education. Next she says that no she didn't plagiarize that those were in fact hers. She denies this. I have the documentation and boot up the web page. She says it isn't plagiarism because she changed a word. (the word was a pronoun, it was 1 word out of 500 or so, and this is explicitly against policy)

I point out that she had already said she plagiarized and that whether or not she admitted it, this was in fact plagiarism.

She then starts crying and says if she gets a bad grade she wont get into law school and that it is my fault as her professor if she doesn't get in.

At this point I let her know that the plagiarism report is going forward, tell her the rights she has a student, and ask her to leave my office. She gets up and slams my office door. I go to the dean and tell him what happened.

In the two days since this happened she has now written multiple poorly worded emails to people on campus about what a mean [expletive] I am because I cannot teach.

Good lord

I hope you breathed a big sigh of relief and said, "Whew, guess you're not coming back to sue me after all then!"

This girl is dumb enough to copy/paste a huge chunk of her paper and turn it in to a professor she recently argued with to the point that she was asked to leave the classroom. I think she may be too dumb even for political office.
