Way too much criticism of the Mark Sanchez contract over on ESPN, btw. Since they don't have anyone else to start in 2012, they just gave the guy one year at $8.5 million. Mediocre as Sanchez has been, you don't get a better QB for $8.5 million, and the Jets freed up like $6 million in cap space for 2012, with the cap set to rise drastically next season. They got some much-needed cap relief, and what did it cost them? The chance to chase after Schaub or Flacco next offseason?

They could still chase after either of them. 8m for one season isn't the sort of cap hit that stops someone from finding another QB.
