HS Basketball

Post by jim »

My alma mater (Springfield Lanphier) beat E. St. Louis last night to advance to the state semi-finals in Peoria for 3A. We were 2nd in 1977, 1st in 1983, 2nd in 1985, and 2nd in 2002. If we win, and Peoria Central win, it would be the 3rd time a Lanphier/Peoria Central matchup occurred (1977, 1983).

if they meet in the championship it will also be the 3rd meeting this year. they have split 2 games so far.
Last nights game with East St.Louis was one for the ages. I have never seen so much speed by both teams in a high school game. Lanphier has a sophmore that has 5 division one offers already (illinois and missouri included). he dropped 24 on east st. louis last night. i am looking forward to friday

If we win Friday get me a ticket for championship game Saturday. I'm only going down if we are in championship game.

And no trip to Peoria for me. Blew an 11 point halftime lead. Not driving 150 miles for 3rd place.

Yeah, they had that game in hand, then all of a sudden....

It seems to happen every year - the downstate teams just don't anticipate the speed and quickness that the Chicago teams bring. It is almost as if they get surprised by it. Probably because they don't face it every week. Peoria was able to adjust and win, but they also had the size to counter the quickness. They were 6'7", 6'5" and 6'10" across the front court.

From what I understand though we just beat maybe the fastest team in the state - E. St. Louis. I wasn't at the game but the Springifeld radio guys were saying that they were getting pushed around and beat up on the boards. One and done, and when they went cold that was a bad formula.
