Re: Pujols..ha
I think his feelings were hurt. I think he's sad his 11 years in St. Louis will never be viewed the same because of the way he departed. I think he wants to pretend he isn't sad and his feelings aren't hurt. So his comments come out as a passive-aggressive jumble.

I agree. Like someone else says, I hope he does well early and doesn't give the fans reason to boo him out there. I don't think he'd handle it well. we'll see.jagtrader wrote:I think his feelings were hurt. I think he's sad his 11 years in St. Louis will never be viewed the same because of the way he departed. Re: Pujols..ha
It seems to me that both parties should just realize that things aren't going to be okay for a while. Pujols needs to understand that even with all he's done on the field and off in St. Louis, he's not going to be well liked by Cardinals fans right now. Some of that hate is rational, some of it is not. But Albert seems to have the idea that he could go somewhere else while still being universally adored in St. Louis. That's not a reality, even though it will get better in time. On the other hand, Cards fans need to understand that Pujols going to LA is a symptom of professional baseball, and not some betrayal of his drafted team. It's possible to just be bummed that Pujols took the money without coming off as a jilted lover.

I've yet to talk to a Cardinals fan who feels betrayed by Pujols. I've talked to many Cardinals fans who feels like he needs to stop feeding the press his [expletive] and just get on with his career in Anaheim.Transmogrified Tiger wrote:It seems to me that both parties should just realize that things aren't going to be okay for a while. I'm glad the Cardinals didn't give him that contract and have made peace with him leaving for more $. It's the constant [expletive] and moaning that has turned me against him, not the fact that he signed with someone else. Just enjoy your $ and shut the hell up.

I don't really care to rehash the hundreds of pages of Pujols discussion from the last few months, but I'm pretty certain that a) he's answering questions asked of him, not running to the press to vent at every opportunity and b) there have been plenty of jilted reactions towards Pujols since he decided to go to LA.

All I know is that I will always love Albert Pujols. He brought some historically exciting and great baseball to STL for 11 years and I will always be thankful. Anything that happens after the fact, whether he said it wasn't about the money and then it was, means nothing to me. I wish him the best in LAA and I perceive any of his subsequent comments to mean he's still trying to reconcile in his own mind his time spent here.

He would be more endearing if he said things like, "It was a learning experience for me," or, "I realize now how naive I was" and leave it at that when the press asks him questions.Transmogrified Tiger wrote:I don't really care to rehash the hundreds of pages of Pujols discussion from the last few months, but I'm pretty certain that a) he's answering questions asked of him, not running to the press to vent at every opportunity and b) there have been plenty of jilted reactions towards Pujols since he decided to go to LA.

Pujols is getting awful crotchety in his old age.
