Let's say Jay is hurting enough to need to join Berkman on the DL. You've also got Furcal, Holliday, Beltran, and Freese on your roster, and those guys to one extent or another have had injury problems in their careers.

Bill Hall is still unsigned after refusing a demotion to AAA with the Yankees. Interesting story from Rosenthal today that Hall isn't opposed to playing AAA ball, he just didn't want to play in the minors for the Yankee team in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. That team is having their stadium remodeled and is essentially playing all of their games on the road this year and Hall--with a new baby--didn't want to subject himself or his wife and family to a year of living in hotel rooms.

Bill Hall is never going to hit 35 HR in a season again. He's probably not much of a threat with the bat...but neither are Tyler Greene or Daniel Descalso, for that matter. He's 32. He's played for some terrible teams in his career. He can play SS, 2b, 3b, and both corner OF positions.

He's a strikeout machine...but he's got some pop in the bat, a little speed in the legs, and swings righthanded and gives you some position flexibility.

He stunk up the joint in Seattle, but so does every hitter who goes there. He wasn't much for either Houston or the Giants last year, but he was playing on a terrible team in HOU and in a tough situation in SF.

Let's put it this way: if it comes down to seeing Eugenio Velez on the bench or a fellow like Bill Hall, I'll take Bill Hall.

With Cobbler and Komatsu available, I am not sure how he fits.

If he could still play SS, he might be an upgrade over Tyler Greene, but I don't know if he can handle SS anymore.

Matt Carpenter really shouldn't be starting against LHP. Shane Robinson shouldn't be counted on for anything better than replacement level production.

So, yeah, if Hall is serious about going to Memphis, then sign him up.

The reason I bring him up is that we have an older, injury prone set of players in the lineup, and when I look at our bench and our possible callups, this team is lopsided with lefties. If Hall will accept a AAA assignment, he'd be a good guy to stash down there.

Hall's no great shakes, but he did OPS .720 this spring with the Yankees.
