Fortunately they've built a bit of a cushion for losses like this. Not phased by this one. Like others were saying, they probably shouldn't have won tonight given the way they played.

Those are the kinds of losses that grind my teeth. The kind where if they play like they can play they should win but instead they poop it away. As noted above, walking Soto and his .128 average? Really? We have tickets to tomorrow's game too but now I'm worried that Wainwright will get slapped around again. Damn.Cronos wrote:Fortunately they've built a bit of a cushion for losses like this. Also, knowing that that will be one of the few highlights of this season for Cubs fans helps.

Agreed with those upthread who don't understand why Matheny was so quick to yank Garcia. Not that it mattered--Motte blew it against some AAAA scrubs and a dude hitting .128, but still, I'm starting to wonder if we'll have a complete game at all this year.

I'm having flashbacks of last year when I'd go to bed before the game ended, with a lead, only to wake up and check the box score and find we lost in the 9th.

One game. We really need our bats to come awake. We can put it on Motte, who was getting squeezed and has made 1 bad pitch this season. Could also put it on Matheny for not sticking with Garcia, who had an unbelievably good game.
But, really, this one is all on the offense. We have to be able to score more than 2 runs. We haven't exactly been rolling offensively the last few days. Need to get going again. Really need to get Craig and Jay back. It's hard to win when you're 24th man is starting at 1b and your 25th man is starting in CF.

Yeah - I'm not too worried about it. Over 162 all teams will have this type of game. Even the '27 Yankees did.
Just don't make it a habit.

The bright side is that Garcia had an excellent outing away from home.
