Trout helped a teammate out tonight .. Mathis hitting .188 lays down a terrible bunt back to the P after Trout lead off with a single. Pitcher picked it up and started to go 2, then thought better of it. Sac bunt for Mathis, nobody will remember that 99% of the time that's a 1-6 fielders choice.

Mike Trout was called up from Double-A when Peter Bourjos landed on the disabled list, so when Bourjos returned last week there wasn’t much room in the lineup for the Angels’ stud prospect.

They kept him around for a while as a bench player, but have rightly decided that the 19-year-old outfielder will be much better off playing regularly again and have sent him back to Double-A.

In fact, Trout announced the move via Twitter long before an official announcement was made.

Trout going back to the minors isn’t shocking, but his returning to Double-A is somewhat surprising given that he hit .324 with a .950 OPS in 75 games there before the call-up.

Choosing to send him back to Double-A rather than Triple-A suggests the Angels either don’t plan on Trout getting called up to stay for a while or are convinced he’s better off not posting ridiculous numbers in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. Or maybe both. He turns 20 years old next week, so there will be plenty of time to knock around Triple-A pitchers if the Angels want to see Trout do that before he arrives in the majors for good. Whatever the case, he’ll likely be back in September and possibly for the playoffs.

I think it's a legit question to ask if Trout is a better player than Harper. It's sort of like debating the top two contestants in the Miss Brazil contest I agree, can't really go wrong with either one. But I really like Trout just because of his speed. 355/420/605 with 6 stolen bases.

I would rather have Trout. I think he'll over the long haul be the better player. Harper might be and probably is the flashier more glamorous player, but Trout is all around a better player, imo. Of the 5 tools I'd go with this analysis:

Hit for avg: Trout>Harper
Speed/baserunning: Trout>Harper
Arm: Harper>Trout
Fielding: Trout>Harper
Hit for power: Trout>Harper

with as thin as CF is in the bigs, I'd much rather have Trout, the kid looks like he'll be the top CF in the game for some time to come

I guess this is where we'll disagree. Harper has a more violent and faster swing. Trout has a better swing. When they connect, harper's dingers will probably go farther but Trout will connect more and inevitably some of those hits will be homeruns.

I guess it's kind of like Fielder and Pujols. You'd be inclined to say Fielder will hit for power moreso than Pujols because of his swing, but still Pujols hits more homeruns (about 20 more through their first 6 seasons) because he has a better swing and even though he doesn't swing as violently, he makes more contact and some of those balls hit leave the yard.
