It doesn’t happen very often, but Colorado had a rare mountain tornado touchdown near Mt. Evans. Saturday afternoon at 2:51 pm. Thunderstorms strengthening over the mountains west of Denver were strong enough to produce a weak, short-lived twister. The National Weather Service has analyzed pictures from the area and confirms that it was a bona fide tornado.

Huh. Was there about 2 weeks ago.

CO high country gets tons of t storms in a typical monsoon year, but a tornado? That is really weird.

I may just be naive on the subject, but it seems strange that all those trees around the houses didn't get burned.

What about this guy who just jumped out of a "space capsule" at 90,000 feet. It was a test jump, for the planned 120,000 feet "space" jump.

It's crazy the industries and success Red Bull has parlayed it's truly terrible beverage into.

Absolutely. I love Red Bull because of the stuff they do... but their drink is terrible. I don't think I've had 1 in years and the only people I know that regularly drink energy drinks, drink Monster.

For some reason the photo is HUGE, which makes it more impactful:

A hiker in the Sierra spent 2 days and 2 nights clinging to a small ledge before being rescued by this chopper--just before he probably would have lost his perch due to exhaustion.

amazing rescue

I hope this guy has to foot the bill for his rescue. People doing obviously insane [expletive] like this don't deserve public assistance. They deserve a darwin award.

People can do all the 'extreme' BS they want, just don't come to me to rescue your ass. Man up and take responsibility for your decisions idiots.

Moderators, feel free to move to rants.

Agree in principle. I am amazed at the predicaments I have seen some people get themselves into. The article does not reveal much about what happened with this guy:
A wrong turn and a couple of brutal falls had left him clinging for two nights and two days to the side of Dog Tooth Peak
He will probably get a bill for the helicopter use. IIUC, the SAR effort won't be billed. Those guys are volunteers. I know in CO, you can buy a SAR card for like $10, and the proceeds go the local chapter to help pay for equipment and supplies.

TBH, I am more incensed by the regular acts of biking idiocy I see around Chicago (no helmet, riding into traffic, riding at 20mph with areobars on the narrow and crowded lakefront path on a Saturday) than by what I see in CO.
