The way "they" explain it, it does just the opposite.

My understanding is that Romney/Ryan want the government stop paying medical bills (which are being padded by doctors) for the elderly, and instead give them a voucher to buy insurance.

So I guess one question is - would vouchers for insurance be cheaper than medical bills?

Hank Williams Jr. played to a crowd of nearly 8,500 at the Iowa State Fair Grandstand Friday night. Following the song “We Don’t Apologize For America” a chant of “USA, USA” broke out amongst the crowd. Williams smiled, telling the crowd that he was their mouth piece, adding:

“We’ve got a Muslim president who hates farming, hates the military, hates the U.S. and we hate him!”

Probably bigger news here in Iowa than elsewhere, but wtf?
That's his shtick now. He's coming to the Kentucky State Fair in just a few days. But so are the Turtles, Journey, Pat Benatar, and Kansas.

It's still fee for service, so it still doesn't do anything to try to improve medical care and it still apportions pay based on what doctors can justify, whether or not it's truly needed.

If it makes medical care any cheaper per person enrolled in Medicare, it's only by eventually forcing them to foot more of the bill.

I really enjoy it when Republicans are embarassed and humiliated, but this guy doesn't deserve all the poop people are throwing at him. He went skinny dipping. BFD.
It's not weird or worrisome that he was the only person who took all of their clothes off in a group of 20 people? He's a hypocrite like all good republican lawmakers.

Really, is there any downside?
Well, it would make elderly people less and less able to afford medical care as time passed--and by "elderly people" actually I mean us, as folks over 55 would still get regular Medicare. So when you are old you'd have a voucher that would only pay for some of your medical care, and you'd be SOL for the rest if you can't afford to pay out of pocket. And since private insurance is more expensive that Medicare, health costs would increase even faster. Other than that, it's awesome.

Well, he was also probably sloppy drunk during the incident, too. But there are "conflicting reports" about that (i.e. his report conflicts with some of the others).

It's a shame the guy is running unopposed in Kansas. Evangelical Christians would probably still vote for the guy who skinny dipped in the water that Jesus walked on over the Democrat, which would be fun.

I can tell Obama hates Iowans and farming because he named former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack as Secretary of Agriculture.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney believes that "some" Americans have taken the separation of church and state too far, "well beyond its original meaning."

The Republican Party is once again set to enshrine into its official platform support for "a human life amendment" to the Constitution that would outlaw abortion without making explicit exemptions for rape or incest, according to draft language of the platform obtained exclusively by CNN late Monday.

"Faithful to the 'self-evident' truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed," the draft platform declares. "We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment's protections apply to unborn children."

The party will reaffirm its opposition to federally-funded embryonic stem cell research and demand that the government "not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion coverage."
