Just taped on Turner a couple weeks ago and haven't seen yet. Can't wait to watch.

Throne of Blood is one of the few Kurosawas (I've seen, I think, 9 or 10) that left me underwhelmed. Though I haven't seen it in a long, long time. In fact I think it was the first film of his I saw.

I think he could have edited it better...there were a few traveling scenes that kept going on and on and on...like when they were in the fog. But overall, you can't mess with Mifune.

Yup, they had a Kurosawa/Mifune marathon...DVR'd the whole day and working through them. Rashomon is up next for me.

Mifune is cool, no doubt, but you know who's cooler? Tatsuya Nakadai. See Harakiri, it's the best samurai film I've seen other than Seven Samurai. Maaaan, oh man.

Kurosawa rankings - there's still a whooole lot more I need to see:

Masterpieces:
Seven Samurai
Ran = Rashomon
Yojimbo

Great:
Red Beard
Sanjuro

Really good:
High and Low
Ikiru

Decent:
Throne of Blood
Kagemusha

Meh:
The Men Who Tread on the Tiger's Tail
The Most Beautiful

How I'd rank my Kurosawas:

Ikiru
Rashomon
Yojimbo/Sanjuro (kind of hard to split 'em up)
High and Low
Throne of Blood
Seven Samurai
Red Beard
The Bad Sleep Well
Hidden Fortress

Then there's a big batch of early stuff that's solid, but not as good as the others- Drunken Angel, The Idiot, Stray Dog, No Regrets for our Youth. And then the only Kurosawa I really didn't like was The Lower Depths

Rashomon is the one that has underwhelmed me. I need to see it again, as it was only the second Kurosawa film I watched and it came immediately after Seven Samurai.

I like Sanjuro mainly because it's hilarious. Overall, though, I think I'd rank it a notch below Yojimbo.

I was surprised how much I like Ran. Didn't think color Kurosawa would do it for me but it's great.

I think he was in Yojimbo?

I'll check it out...I'm working through Kurosawa this year, so it might have to wait a few months.
