this fascinates me too. not enough to listen to his show and find out who his advertisers are, but that is the answer. Whoever paid for advertising during his shows paid him a good living.
but technically, Slaten paid for KFNS the air space. not the advertisers.
All on air personalities pay for the air space. And hope the advertising sales is more than the air space cost.

Bernie had me laughing today. He promised not to talk for 3 hours about this Te'o thing. So instead he has an hour long sermon on it all, with no countering thoughts to his own, other than conjuring up some more from his convenient strawmen - the internet haters. (to be honest, I didn't listen that long - but I extrapolated what he was going to do from the 5 minutes I did hear him talking)

And regarding Slaten - I know he was a big ND guy. I didn't get to hear him much this fall before he got the boot. Was he bonering it up over ND and Manti Heisman? Or was he too consumed with Joe Paterno defamation conspiracy, the election, stop light camera tickets, and his son not getting recruited to Mizzou etal to get to ND Manti.
Slaten fails to show for court hearing in assault case
The local sports radio personality who bills himself as “The King” failed to appear in court Wednesday night on an assault charge.
Kevin Slaten, 58, of St. Charles, had been charged by Webster Groves authorities with misdemeanor assault in connection with a confrontation Nov. 12 at the KFNS (590 AM) radio station studios, 8045 Big Bend Boulevard.
Slaten was supposed to appear at 6 p.m. Wednesday, but he never showed up. Court officials said they had not received any correspondence from Slaten, nor from an attorney on his behalf.
The case was continued until Feb. 27. Court officials said standard procedure was to issue the automatic continuance — instead of issuing an arrest warrant — on a defendant’s first failure to appear.
If convicted, Slaten faces a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Slaten could not be reached for comment.
The alleged incident happened when Slaten was told by officials at the radio station that they would no longer broadcast his show. Slaten allegedly cursed, threatened and spit on a colleague. A police officer said that Slaten was “cordial” and “polite” when he was issued a summons on Nov. 26.
Slaten has had a history of allegations of altercations. In 1981, he was arrested after an altercation with a Florissant policeman. It’s unclear how the case was resolved. In 1993, he was found guilty of misdemeanor and felony assault for attacking a couple after a minor auto accident after a Blues hockey game. He was placed on probation and fined.
In 1994, he was arrested after a scuffle outside the Trainwreck Saloon in Rock Hill, but charges were dropped. In 2006, Slaten faced allegations of a fight with a patron at a pub about sports. Slaten said that the other man pushed him, and no charges were filed.
One way or another, Stan Kroenke is going to get a new stadium for his Rams to play in. Socan we put someone in the room who can make that happen as quickly as possible? Can we put someone (or several people) in the room who has the clout politically, the mind financially and the vision creatively to execute this complicated, but important process?
Let’s get all the right people in the room who not only want to build a new stadium that can land St. Louis a Super Bowl, but understand what the value of that sort of venue can mean to a city.

KFNS and 1380 are going to drop sports programming and they will become 590 "The Man" and 1380 "The Woman"...Bubba the Love Sponge will take over the Mckernan show. Looks like Frank Cusamano is the only personality that is for sure sticking around.
Looks like some guy who owns Marshall Wireless offered to invest in 590/1380, but only if he could control the programming. Bubba the Love Sponge? "The Man" and "The Woman"? Sounds like a genius. What kind of woman would want to listen to women talk on 1380am, which can barely be heard anyway?
McKernan's investment group has an offer to buy some other station and has identified another station in the group's budget. They also apparently have a job offer at another station and a meeting with another next week.
