In. the Lizzy Seeberg case, Notre Dame did a poor investigation to keep the truth from coming out. In the Monti Teo case, Notre Dame did an overzealous investigation to keep the truth from coming out.

Actually, I heard the player in question forced the pills down her throat. I also heard that the school president was there cheering him on and texting Brian Kelly letting him know his culture of gang-raping lunatic football players was secure.slide_into_first wrote:So a coed od'ed because someone grabbed her teats. Well if Lizzy was a histrionic, neurotic seductress, Notre Dame would have served justice better by involving public law enforcement and investigating more promptly. It appears all they care about is their appearance.

Then it must be true.lukethedrifter wrote:ndistops says that there was no sex thus no rape.
Also, it's odd to toss the phrase "conspiracy theory" around when we know for a fact there was a conspiracy, we just don't know for sure who was in on it.

You can ask the county prosecutor if you'd like.Vidor wrote:Then it must be true..lukethedrifter wrote:ndistops says that there was no sex thus no rape.
Then again, that would be inconvenient to people that like to toss around the word rape haphazardly, wouldn't it?St. Joe County prosecutor Mike Dvorak said Seeberg alleged that the player touched her breasts which prosecutors were investigating as a potential sexual battery charge

I think it's pretty clear what I meant, but I will clarify. If people still believe that Te'o freely participated in the "conspiracy" just for the publicity, then they are as naive as he is.

To clarify...are you saying that people who think he masterminded the "conspiracy" are "naive", or that people who think he somehow, at some point, played along are "naive"?Socnorb11 wrote:Vidor wrote:Then it must be true.lukethedrifter wrote:ndistops says that there was no sex thus no rape.

Anybody who thinks that this was his idea is silly, I think.stlouie_lipp wrote:To clarify...are you saying that people who think he masterminded the "conspiracy" are "naive", or that people who think he somehow, at some point, played along are "naive"?Socnorb11 wrote:Vidor wrote:Then it must be true.lukethedrifter wrote:ndistops says that there was no sex thus no rape.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say he "played along". Did he embellish the relationship? I think he probably did. But I don't think he did it to win a Heisman, or improve his draft leverage, or whatever the theory is. I suspect it felt like a very good story (and a very real story) to him, and so he shared it................... probably for attention. It's not unusual for guys to want attention. I'm not a big fan of it, but it certainly doesn't make him Lucifer.

Re: Manti Te'o is a liar
It would not seem naive to assume that a known liar is still lying. (Not sure why you put "conspiracy" in quotes, BTW, since even if one believes Te'o thought the girl was real multiple people had to be working on this, which is the definition of a conspiracy.) We know that he claimed to have met her on multiple occasions, which is not true. We know that he lied again in the days immediately after supposedly finding out she was alive, making multiple references to her death. We know that he never visited this girlfriend while she was hospitalized for cancer because, darn it, it never crossed his mind. And we know that when he finally decided to tell his side of this story--over a month after he found out the truth, two days after the story broke in the media--he sat down for an interview at 11 pm on a Friday night, away from the cameras, which of course is what someone who wants to set the record straight does.Socnorb11 wrote:I think it's pretty clear what I meant, but I will clarify. Maybe you are right, maybe he is just this profoundly stupid (except he's still a liar even if he wasn't in on the hoax). But the presumption of innocence being granted this guy is jaw-dropping. If I were a reporter, at the minimum I'd want a copy of his phone records. Supposedly he was on the phone with this girl for eight hours at a time. Can he prove it?

Who cares whether he can prove it or not. As I said above, it's pretty obvious that he embellished at least parts of the story, just for attention. Nobody is proclaiming his innocence, in that regard. But he's certainly not the only football player ever to be an attention-whore. I love Johnny Football, but he apparently goes about getting his attention on Twitter. Just a different means. They all want attention.
