Where did you get them Doc? I might be getting a dog (the first one that's really "mine") sometime over the next 6 months. Those little tuckers are cute.

Don't want to speak for Doc, but Stray Rescue, Gateway Pet Guardians, and Heartland Humane Society are all great rescue orgs. They all raise their dogs in foster homes, so they're usually very well trained and socialized. Start checking out their pages of adoptable dogs and my guess is you'll be adopting sooner than six mos. from now.

My girlfriend and I recently rescued Lyla, my German Shepherd mix, from Stray Rescue.

It's a great organization. My dog was hit by a car before being rescued, shattering a bone in her back leg. She had an 8 inch pin in her leg for awhile and was restricted to the clinic, and we got her about a week after the pin was taken out. She's expected to make a full recovery, but they do treat pre-existing conditions for free. The vet at Stray Rescue is going to cover her for that leg for life, including the arthritis she will almost certainly have. She has a ton of energy, and has an awful habit of jumping on people. There's also a bit of a nipping problem. I'm not sure what to do about it. I've always done the rolled up magazine with a quick tap on the nose and a stern "no", but I'm sure that's not the best way. She only does it at home when she's comfortable. She's 1 1/2 years old, so not teething. She has a Nyla bone (highly recommend it for any dog) and plenty of toys to chew on. I've emailed the trainer at Stray Rescue, hopefully they respond soon.

I found my dog out on them streets. I think when he dies I'm just gonna drive back up to the navajo reservation and grab another puppy off the street because he's the best damn dog I've ever had.

Aww, she's cute, TGantz! It always seemed to me that dogs take longer to grow out of the puppy stage, like through 2 yrs. plus, especially compared cats who act like young adults by the time they're 1.

Anyway, good on you for rescuing your girl who had a rough start to life!

Thanks, Planet. She's very sweet, which is why we fell in love with her. She had the cone of shame and a ton of bandages on when we met her, so my girlfriend never stood a chance. She walks with a limp and is from the streets, so my girlfriend calls her "Lyla Thuggins."
