The only thing I miss about Facebook is it is a medium that can be used to some effect for one of my main missions in life: pissing off the religious right. Respond with Merry X!mas or something etc... Happy Holidays, or the one that gets the old white people all up in arms (bonus points for that): "Have a blessed Kwanza".
My niece posts at least 3 pics of her dogs per day. Her Christmas card had three pictures - one of her and SO with both dogs and two individual shots of each dog with antlers.

Is facebook going into my phone and changing this?
It's part of Facebook's policy to always undo any privacy settings you may have selected each time there's an update. Not surprisingly, each time the change will be in favor of giving you more video/sending out more of your info to the universe.

I thought perhaps it WAS because of updates, but there haven't been any updates in like the last two weeks that I've opted out of the autoplay.
Social networks function like infectious diseases, according to Princeton researchers. They spread fast—and then disappear
I could have told them that without all the research. See FLASHCHAT - one year it's sweeping GRB, ...and Facebook is offering Michael billion$ for it, and next year it's a ghost town.
facebook may see a decline, largely because teens are turned off of it due to parental control/oversight. But it isn't going away in the next couple years regardless of what that unscientific study says.
