It's probably unfair for me to characterize Herm Edwards this way, but that video seemed to me like a guy with some old fashioned (bad) views re: homosexuality realizing that it's no longer professionally tenable to speak those views. Probably smart, but you can see the effort it's taking him to stay neutral and I doubt it's because he wants to shout from the mountain tops how having a gay player on his team wouldn't bother him or cause him to worry about "distractions" .

After three [expletive] teams gave Tim Tebow a job, I don't want to hear anyone talk about locker room distractions pertaining to Michael Sam.

I liked his comment about the perception of some folks that gay men are automatically locker room predators. It's definitely insulting, as it implies that all gay guys have a one-track mind and lack respect or will power. That's not how it works at all. Michael Sam is there to play football and win, just like the rest of his teammates.

Now that you're coming back from the dead, don't forget to post in the baseball forum.

Welcome back man, and thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think the overwhelming reaction to the Sam story shows how our country has changed just within the last decade, and it's changing in a way that makes life better for so many people. That really makes me proud.

I agree completely. I remember times when I was much younger (probably 12 years old) where I was paralyzed with fear thinking about how family/friends/society would reject me, so this kind of story is very indicative of how attitudes have changed tremendously in a pretty short amount of time. I think it'll help a lot of people.

Yup. Along the same lines, I think a lot of the people taking the "Who cares? I don't need to know your sexuality!" stance are clinging to the last kinda sorta (but not really) politically correct way to voice their disapproval of homosexuality. Publicly speaking out against it doesn't really go over well anymore, as you said, so this attitude is their last resort.
