All I know is that I would never want to be an ump. Or ref.

I love Earl Weaver, but that umpire owned him that day. Hilarious stuff. "You're no [expletive]' good either, Earl". LOL

I love Ron Luciano's books, he and Weaver came up through the minors together, when Luciano would make a call Weaver didn't like, he'd yell at Luciano, "You couldn't get that call right in Elmira and and you still can't get it right!"

I wonder what Torii Hunter though of umpire Paul Nauert's gentle slap of his face.

"That's my guy," Hunter told The Detroit News of Nauert. "He was trying to cover my mouth. I've known him too long [to be upset]. He was just saying to me, 'C'mon, T. You're way better than that.' And he's right.

"I apologize to the fans for my reaction."

Hunter acknowledged that he was swept up in the emotion of the moment but said he probably wasn't going to charge the mound.

That doesn't seem like much of anything.

The Deadspin article points out that if Hunter had touched the umpire, he would have been suspended. So why should an umpire touch a player? Hunter could have gone ballistic and done something much worse. Better that the umps keep their hands to themselves.

Whoever the hell was behind the plate tonight. If he's not in this thread yet, he should be.
